About Sealife Scarborough

Scarborough SEA LIFE and Marine Sanctuary will introduce you to many strange and beautiful creatures of the deep. Prepare for astonishing close views of everything from the humble starfish to the mighty shark, all in displays which carefully recreate their natural habitats.

Explore freshwater rivers and streams, the rugged UK coastline, the shallows and the dark depths of the North Sea, and the crystal clear warm waters of the Barrier Reef. At every step there are different amazing creatures to find, watch and to learn about.

Discover the truth about the much-misunderstood shark; the plight of the endangered sea turtle; the remarkable lives of seahorses and countless more surprising facts about these and other incredible creatures.

As well as the amazing displays indoors, you can visit our Sanctuary animals outdoors including our Seals, Otters and Humboldt Penguins.

At the centre, we have four resident seals – Bubbles, Mando, Bruno and Ed. Two Otters, brother and sister duo, Eric and Cherry and fourteen Humboldt Penguins all named after famous cartoon characters.

New for 2008 – Seal Rescue Centre

Our new Seal Rescue Centre invites visitors to sample for themselves what it’s like to care for these amazing creatures. How do you do a simple thing like take a temperature when your patient is spitting and snarling and determined to remove your fingers? Prepare to find out…and to try your hand at a few other tricky tasks that are all in a days work for our animal care team.

At the Centre, our team of experts offer a range of educational talks and feeding demonstrations of amazing animals including seals, penguins and otters. The Centre also offers disabled access and features a café with a soft play area and a gift shop
